The UNECE Transport Division has been providing secretariat services to the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) for more than 50 years. The World Forum has incorporated into its regulatory framework the technological innovations of vehicles to make them safer and more environmentally sound.
In addition to acting as secretariat to the World Forum, the Vehicle Regulations and Transport Innovations section serves as the secretariat of the Administrative Committee for the coordination of work, and of the Administrative/Executives Committees of the three Agreements on vehicles administered by the World Forum.

Egypt accedes to the Agreement concerning the Adoption of Uniform Technical Prescriptions for Wheeled Vehicles, of 1958.
UNECE’s World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulation (WP.29) adopted, on 14 November 2012, three new UN Regulations that will significantly increase passenger safety, on the following subjects: Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Child Restraint Systems (CRS), Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS). The 5th International Environmentally Friendly Vehicle Conference under the auspices of WP.29 has been hosted by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy and Environment Canada in Baltimore, Maryland, September 10-12, 2012. The conference brought together world leaders from governments, industry and NGOs to explore the opportunities for innovation and investment in clean transport.
